About Me – Savannah “River” Williams

Hello! I’m Savannah, although lots of parents and children know me as River – my nickname and, of course, the name behind Rivers Tutoring! 👋💚

I’m a home-educating parent, tutor and mum to two children with additional needs, and we’ve been on our own home education journey since 2023.

Both as a parent and a tutor, I’ve seen first-hand that children don’t all learn in the same way – and they shouldn’t be expected to.

Some children need more time. Some need things explained in a different way (or more than once!). Some learn best by joining in, while others are much happier simply watching and listening. And for some children, removing the pressure to perform is what finally gives them the confidence to learn.

That understanding is a huge part of why I created Rivers Tutoring.

My professional training covers Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Child Psychology, Mental Wellbeing and Special Educational Needs, alongside the experience I gain every day as a home-educating parent.

I wanted to use that combination to create something that felt different from traditional tutoring.

Our sessions are calm, flexible and encouraging. There’s no pressure to speak, answer questions or have a camera or microphone on. We recap regularly, explain things step-by-step and give children time to process.

Worksheets are there to support the session – not to create another source of pressure. If we don't finish one, that's absolutely fine!

For me, a successful session isn't about completing every question on a page. It's about a child leaving feeling comfortable, capable and hopefully a little more confident than when they arrived.

🏡 A little bit about life behind Rivers

Rivers Tutoring is run from our very lively family home, which means one of our rescue cats may occasionally decide they're qualified enough to make a guest appearance during a session! 🐈😂

When I'm not running our learning clubs or planning new sessions, you'll usually find me spending time with my family. We love exploring new places, being outdoors and visiting the beach – our absolute happy place. 🌊

I created Rivers because I wanted the kind of learning environment I know so many children need:

Calm. Supportive. Flexible. Affordable. And accepting of children exactly as they are.

Your child doesn't need to fit a particular mould to join us.

Whether they're home educated, neurodivergent, have additional needs, struggle with traditional learning, lack confidence, or simply prefer a gentler approach, they're welcome here.

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn in a way that works for them.
